Why I decided to run for the position of Killingworth First Selectman Unaffiliated

From my experience on town committees it became apparent to me that the two parties did not always have a good selection of candidates to choose from. I felt with my experience and back ground that I would make a good candidate even though I have always been unaffiliated.
At the Killingworth Chamber of Commerce Chili Cook Off in October of last year, I met Debby Butler Chairman of the Republican Nominating Committee. Debby encouraged me to join the Republican Party and interview for the position of First Selectman which I did.
I was later informed by Debby that the committee had chosen Bill Ramero to be their candidate even though he has lived in town only three years. When I asked Debby what involvement Mr. Ramero had with the Town of Killingworth, her response was nothing yet.
I felt at this point that I needed to run as an unaffiliated candidate for Killingworth First Selectman and I removed myself from the Republican Party.
Some time later I received a phone call from Mr. Ramero to welcome me as a new member of the Republican Party and invite me to their fund raiser. I informed Mr. Ramero I was also running for the position of First Selectman. He then explained that his agenda was to run the town as a business and the fact that he had no previous involvement with the town was a good thing.
This talk with Mr. Ramero just reaffirmed that my choice to run was the correct one.
